  Matthew Thompson
Matthew Thompson first started carving stone at the age of 16 when he took a year out of school to do work experience with his father, Ken Thompson. When he finished school he trained in his fathers work shop for three years and also worked on the occasional commission of his own.
For the following three years Matthew spent six months of the year living and working near the marble quarries in Carrara, Italy. Many of the works in this exhibition were carved during this time and display the large variety of marble available in Italy.
In the last year Matthew has set up his own small workshop near Carrigtwohill where he works on his own carvings and also from commission.
